This is one of my favorite dishes to make on a Ketogenic Diet! It’s Egg Roll in a Bowl or also known as — Crack Slaw, Cabbage Stir Fry, etc — so many names for this delicious dish!
My version uses Ground Pork Sausage instead of Ground Pork or Beef. I prefer using Pork Sausage because it adds so much more flavor to the dish. I use Regular/Mild flavored sausage and you can use any brand you like. I know it sounds weird using Pork Sausage in Egg Roll in a Bowl, but give it a try.If you’re a bit hesitant, you can try 1/2 lb of Ground Pork + 1/2 lb of Pork Sausage instead of 1 lb of Pork Sausage.
I also like to make this with Shrimp! You can omit the Shrimp if you’d like, but it does add another level of flavor to the dish. I feel like this is more of a “combination” Egg Roll in a Bowl and Shrimp works well with it.
I like to top this off with Furikake (a Japanese topping mixture of Seaweed, Sesame Seeds, Egg Yolk Powder, and Bonito Flakes), green onions, and egg. Can you believe I ran out of eggs? #KetoProblems haha!
Leftovers? YES! You can definitely eat this as a leftover or for meal prepping. It’s better the next day too! Check out one of my keto meal prep when I prepped this for 5 days.
One piece of advice: Don’t cook your cabbage all the way if this is meant for leftovers or meal prep. Make sure the meats are cooked (of course!) but keep your cabbage half way cooked or even a little bit more than that.
The next time you reheat it, it should cook thoroughly in the microwave or pan and it won’t be as mushy.
For some sweetness, I like to add about 2-3 tbsp of Granular Lakanto Monkfruit Sweetener. Since Lakanto has virtually zero glycemic impact with 0 Net Carbs, it’s been quite helpful since I have Type 2 Diabetes. Lakanto has different versions of their sweetener, but this one is mixed with Erythritol.
I tried Lakanto for the first time about a year ago and I was hooked! I use Lakanto on almost every dish that I make for myself and for my family & here’s a shocker: They can’t tell the difference! That’s always a plus. 😀

I need to talk about dirty dishes. I hate them. WITH A PASSION. I live in Los Angeles and a good amount of living spaces in LA are usually without dishwashers. I happen to live in one of them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If I can get away with not having to use multiple pans for one recipe, ooooh trust me I will!
One of the best things about Egg Roll in a Bowl is that you only need ONE PAN from start to finish and it takes only 30 minutes! I cook the Pork Sausage first and then add the garlic & onion when the sausage is half cooked. After that, it’s just tossing the rest of the ingredients together in the pan. As my 5 year old says “Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!“.
My boyfriend has always been very hesitant on trying any of my Ketogenic dishes but last week he decided to try this one. Let’s just say his face lit up and asked for extras next time. 🙂 So here we are, I’m making a new batch for my family and finally typed up the recipe for it.
If you’ve ever made Egg Roll in a Bowl, it’s pretty similar except that the protein is different. I hope you enjoy this version and let me know what you think!
PrintKeto Egg Roll in a Bowl with Pork Sausage & Shrimp – One Pot Meals
- Prep Time: 5 Minutes
- Cook Time: 30 Minutes
- Total Time: 35 minutes
- Yield: 8 1x
Description
Egg Roll in a Bowl is a favorite in our household — we make it at least once a week! I like to use Pork Sausage because it adds another flavor to the dish. I like adding Shrimp for the flavor!
Ingredients
- 1 lb Shrimp
- 1 lb of Pork Sausage*
- 16oz Cole Slaw Mix**
- 90g Onions
- 10g Garlic
- 5g Fresh Grated Ginger
- 3 tbsp Soy Sauce or Coconut Aminos
- 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
- 1/2 tbsp Sesame Oil
- 2–3 tbsp of Lakanto Monkfruit Sweetener
Optional Toppings & Condiments:
- Sriracha
- Sesame Seeds
- Seaweed
- Furikake
- Egg
Instructions
- Using a large pan, add Pork Sausage and cook on low-medium heat. Using a meat chopper or fork, break up chunks to small, bite sized pieces.
- Add the Garlic and Onion once pork sausage is halfway cooked. Toss and cook throughly.
- Add the Shrimp and cook it through until it’s pink.
- On medium heat, add the Coleslaw Mix & Extra Cabbage into the pan. Add Soy Sauce, Black Pepper, Sweetener, and Grated Ginger. Toss gently. Cook the cabbage to your liking.
- Add the Sesame Oil 1-2 minutes before turning off the heat.
- Serve with Toppings & Condiments, such as Sesame Seeds, Sea Weed, or Sriracha. Enjoy!
Notes
* You can use half ground pork / half pork sausage for this dish if you’re not sure about pork sausage.
** You can also double up on the cole slaw mix instead of just adding more extra cabbage.
Feel free to add more soy sauce to your liking, but if you’re using 1 lb of Pork Sausage, it might get too salty. Add it in slowly!

When do I add the shrimp 🦐
Right after you add the garlic and onions!
Is there a substitute for the sesame oil? My husband is allergic to sesame anything.
You can omit this, if he’s allergic! No need to put the sesame oil or sesame seeds. Hope you like it!
